Pauline Buldas, 98, of Montpelier, passed away on September 23, 2017 at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier. She was born in Zevgolatio, Corinth Greece in 1919 to John and Marina Andrianos and was the last living of their five children.  Like many immigrants of her era, in 1949, she had the strength and courage to leave her family and homeland to escape poverty and a post World War II Civil War. This strength and courage sustained her throughout her 98 years. Widowed in 1963, she raised her three young children.

She was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother continuously encouraging achievement and independence. She was very proud of becoming an American citizen in 1964 and was an outspoken, life-long democrat. Although in her fifties, she was determined to learn to drive. She learned to do so, while driving around the Williams county fairgrounds and everyone in town knew her big blue Cadillac.

Pauline performed all domestic skills masterfully including cooking (especially her Greek meatballs), Greek pastry baking, sewing of garments without the use of patterns and growing magnificent roses.

We will forever miss her quick wit, wisdom and love for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Buldas and daughter-in-law Constance (Nicolen) Buldas. She is survived by her three children: Marina Lung (Bruce), George Buldas (Dena), and James Buldas.  Her six grandchildren: John Lung (Kenzi), James Lung (Amy), Angela Buldas, John Buldas (Abbey), James Buldas (Maria), Jenna Gawronski (Steve) and six great grandchildren: Christopher and Nicholas Lung, Valentino Buldas, Theodore Buldas, Konstantina Buldas, and Vincent and Juliana Gawronski.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 26th from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier, Ohio. The Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, September 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Eleftherios (Larry) Legakis to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. Donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Toledo, Ohio.

I am sorry to hear of Mrs. Buldas' passing. She was one of the first persons I rented from back in early 70's. Very nice lady with a strong will. Prayers for your continued strength as you mourn her loss.

I just went to see Pauline a week ago at the Nursing Home. She loved having her back scratched and would always kiss my hand. My Mother, Rosemary did her hair for many years and they became good friends. My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire family. She was a strong woman who loved her family very much and will be sadly missed!

As i saw the passing of Pauline many wonderful memories came to me over the last few days---My mother teaching your mother to speak English---coffee at the table and how beautiful the two ladies were--We never ran into Pauline where she didnt say you look like Viola--Pauline was such a dear sweet lady --may your wonderful memories carry you through the days ahead--Prayers to you all!

My sincere sympathy to Pauline's family. Whenever she came to the office, I knew I was in for a unique visit. Since I went to school with Marina, Pauline was always concerned how life was treating me. She also had a way of talking to me as if I was one of her kids. Interactions with my patients is what I miss in retirement and I especially am aware of this as we lose people as nice and true as Pauline.

I have known the Buldas family for over 60 years. They are very dear to me. That's where I got my first taste of baklava. Both your mom and Dad were very strong and caring people. they have both be missed. Pauline is always going to live on in everyone she ever met. She Is truly remarkable as are her children. My prayers are with you as are Pegge's and Barbara's.

Buldas Family,

My sympathies on the loss of your mother. Although I didn't know her, my dad, Ron Whetro, did. When I was little and Dad worked at Hause, I would often hear the names of Mrs. Buldas, Marina, and George mentioned (since Jim is closer to my age, I believe he was too young for Dad to interact with much). My mom tells me that Mrs. Buldas used seek his counsel on accounting matters, etc. I never knew this.
