(Kownatzky) Rings
March 18, 1938 – February 22, 2026
Betty J. Rings, 87, of Montpelier, passed away on February 22, 2026, at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
Betty was born on March 18, 1938, in Findlay to William F. and Mary Alice (Gibbons) Kownatzky. On April 7, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, George B. Rings in Decatur, Indiana. He preceded her in death in May of 2018.
Betty was a graduate of Findlay High School in 1956 and later attended Northwest State Community College, where she earned an accounting degree. She worked for four years as a secretary for the United Community Council in Columbus. Betty also worked alongside her husband George at Rings Pharmacy in Montpelier, where she helped with accounting, served as secretary, and was vice president of the business.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Betty cherished raising her children and later took great joy in watching her grandchildren participate in sports and school activities. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, hosting family gatherings, playing Mahjong and crafts, and especially loved entertaining and spending time with her family.
She was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was an honorary member of the Montpelier Civic League.
Betty is survived by her three sons: George Brian (Becky) Rings IV of Las Vegas; Steven (Laura) Rings of Montpelier; and David (Laura) Rings of Dublin. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Megan (Joe) Dryden, Paige Rings, Hillary (Ben) Rings, Mitchell (Jordan) Rings, Samuel Rings, Rebecca (Todd) Rings-Miller, and Emily (Hayden) Jochem; and five great-grandchildren. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband George; parents; three sisters, Ruth Kownatzky, Mary Jo Koehler and Dorotha Perkins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church in Montpelier. Services will immediately follow at 3:00 pm at the church with Pastor Marc LaPointe officiating. A private interment will take place at the Columbarium at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Community Health Professionals (CHP Hospice) or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
