Betty "Jane" Hopkins, 81, of Edon, known as Jane to those who knew and
loved her, went home to the Lord and her loved ones on June 7, 2016,
surrounded by her children at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice in Defiance.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1934 in Steuben County, Indiana to Christopher H.
and Hannah M. (Beebe) Petre. Jane graduated from Hamilton High School in
1953. She married Alton L. Hopkins on Aug. 8, 1953 in Angola, Indiana and
he preceded her in death in December 2010.
Jane worked at Handy & Harmon in Angola as a furnace feeder for 16 years
before retiring in 2002. She was an avid reader and loved crossword
puzzles, her grandchildren and, when she was able, cooking for family and
neighbors. She was a loving, caring mother who was dearly loved and will
be greatly missed.
She is survived by three children, Tina (Jeff) Pinkham of Bryan, Ohio, Pam
(Lee) Mauk of Edon, Ohio and Greg (Chris) Hopkins of Pioneer, Ohio; four
grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one on the way, 11
stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Alton "Pete," a son, Alton Jr.,
in 1959, a grandson, Christopher Mauk in 1990, two brothers and six
sisters.
Visitation for Jane will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 at
the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Services will
follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Kim A. Hopkins to officiate.
Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. Memorial
contributions may be given to Defiance Hospice "Patient Care Fund."
