Betty J. John, 79, of Montpelier died early Wednesday morning at her home.  Betty was born on July 22nd 1932 in Monticello, Indiana to John Henry "Trigg" & Alberta M. (Baer)  Randall.  Betty graduated from Monticello, Indiana High School in 1951. Betty retired in 1994 after 15 years from the Williams County Sheriff's Department as a Matron Clerk and Dispatcher.  She was also involved as a reporter and photographer for the Leader Enterprise and County Line Newspapers for approximately 11 years.  Betty was also very active in the Williams County Playhouse for more than 10 years.  She won the best supporting actress role in "Barefoot in the Park" and also won the Willie Award for the playhouse season of 1970/71.  Betty and her husband Gail were very active as coaches for the Montpelier swim and dive teams.  After her husband's death Betty was appointed to finish her husband's term on the Montpelier Village Council.  Betty was a member of the Montpelier Moose, Eagles and the American Legion. Betty is survived by five sons: Jeffory H. John of Montpelier, Kent & Jill John of Montpelier, Kurt John of Montpelier, Kraig & Laura John of Montpelier, Scott & Lisa John of West Unity, two daughters Diane Lovejoy of Montpelier, Pamela & Larry Shaull of Montpelier, 12 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one sister Sandra & Dick Segrist of Columbus, Ohio. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband M. Gail John in January 2001, one daughter Patricia in 1956, and two half brothers. A time to receive friends will be on Saturday, December 17th from 12-5pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier.  A meal will be prepared after the visitation hours at the Montpelier Eagles at 6pm.  Donations can be made to the Montpelier Parks and Recreation: Kid's Garden.
