Obituary

Chiyo Myers, 79, of rural Camden, died of complications from cancer on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan, Ohio. She was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Naha, Okinawa, to Choke and Kamado Itosu. She married Melvin D. Myers on July 13, 1953, in Okinawa, and she came to the United States with Melvin and their eldest child, Dorothy Myers, in April 1956. Chiyo became a U.S. citizen in June 10, 1966. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Montpelier, Ohio. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed baking, gardening, traveling and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandsons. She is survived by five children, Dorothy, Donald (Shirley), Douglas and Dennis, all of rural Camden, and Debbie (Larry Lockwood) of Hillsdale; two grandsons, Donald and Marcus; a brother, Choue Itosu of Okinawa; a special brother, Itcharo Itosu of Japan; a special friend, Fuyoko "June" Hannibal of Osseo; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 1, 1984; a daughter, Darlene on May 27, 1971; her parents; twin brothers and two sisters. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home, Pioneer, Ohio. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. John H. Crilley officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Ransom, with the Rev. Todd Fetter officiating. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Waldron Athletic Boosters.
