Obituary

Harold Ralph Rigg, 91, Bryan, passed away July 28, 2012 at Hillside Country Living. He was born July 3, 1921 in Jefferson Township, Williams County, Ohio to Burl Ray and Mary Urilla (McKarns) Rigg. Upon graduation from Bryan High School in 1938, Ralph farmed full time with his father and 2 brothers, Dale and Wayne. He began his registered Holstein herd at age 14 when his father bought and gave him 2 calves. Ralph's 2 ½ year military career as a pilot in the US Army Air Corps began in January 1943. Ralph was stationed in Foggia, Italy and piloted 35 sorties in the B24 Liberator in World War II. Upon returning from flight duty he became a flight instructor at Smyrna , TN AAF base until the war was over. Ralph married Eloise Lucile Connolly, Montpelier, on November 16, 1947. She survives.  In 1952, Ralph and Eloise settled onto their farm on C.R. 13 between G and H and lived there 57 years, raising their 3 children. During those years Ralph bred and raised numerous award winning registered Holsteins and was a very active member of the community.  He served as President of the Williams County Farm Bureau, Dairy Service Unit, Williams County Landmark Co-Op and the Northwest Electric Co-Op.  In 1981-1982 he served as President of the Ohio Holstein Association.  Ralph was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of the Pulaski United Methodist Church. Ralph is survived by his wife Eloise, daughters Barbara Cordell (Joseph) of Marietta, GA and Betty Petrick (Stephen) of Noblesville, IN. He was preceded in death by his son Richard Alan Rigg, and brothers Dale and Wayne. Ralph is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Adam Graft (Jane), Matthew Graft (Liz), Ashley, Paige and Kelly Petrick and 5 great grandchildren Lee, Reese, Emmie, James and Christian Graft. Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier on Thursday August 2nd, 5-8pm. Funeral services officiated by Pastor Becky Plough will be held Friday August 3rd, 11 am at the Pulaski United Methodist Church with calling after 10 am. Burial will follow at Shiffler Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Rigg Family Scholarship , c/o The Bryan Area Foundation,  102 North Main Street, Bryan, Ohio 43506. This scholarship was established in memory of Ralph and Eloise's son, Richard and is awarded yearly to a Bryan High School graduate attending The Ohio State University.
