Obituary

Helen Irene Wilson, 88, of Montpelier, died peacefully early Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Hillside Country Living, surrounded by her family. She was born March 2, 1923, in West Unity, Ohio, to Carson and Flossie (Finch) Cummins, and attended Montpelier High School, graduating in 1941. She graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind., and worked in Fort Wayne until her marriage in August 1944 to Bill Sayers. Her husband had joined the U.S. Army before their marriage, and had to leave soon after the wedding to attend training in California. She followed him, traveling across country by train, and lived there several months before returning to Ohio to await his return from World War II. The couple and their children moved to Illinois in the early 1950s, living in Bensenville, then DeKalb until 1964, when the family moved back to Montpelier. While in Illinois, she worked at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She later was a longtime employee at Robinair in Montpelier. She married Howard Wilson in 1977, and happily expanded her family, embracing his children and grandchildren. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed reading, playing bridge and family gatherings. She was a past member of the Twice Ten Study Club, and was active in St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Montpelier. She also enjoyed traveling, and had visited Saudi Arabia, the Holy Land, Europe and Alaska. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor. Her family will miss everything about her. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands. She is survived by her sisters, Doris (Dutch) Emenhiser of Fort Wayne, Marilyn (John) Strait of Salisbury, Md., and Lois (Gary) Connolly of Hiawassee, Ga.; children, Carol (Ken) Heaney of Wauseon, James (Taj) Sayers of Milwaukee, Wis., and John Sayers and his partner, Bill Kowaleski, of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Jamal (Wendy) Kheiry of Findlay, Leila Kheiry of Ketchikan, Alaska, Mona Kheiry of Indianapolis, Kathryn Sayers of Milwaukee and Jeremy Sayers of Milwaukee; great-grandchildren, Alex, Essma and Rebecca Kheiry of Findlay; stepchildren, Sherry (Lyle) Shoup of Montpelier and Dr. Jackie Rose of Circleville, OH; stepgrandchildren, Deenie, Debbie, Molly, SherryAnn and Jamie; seven step-great-grandchildren Andrew and Mitchell Siebenaler of Gilbert, AZ, Sydney, Madison, Ben, Cassidy Estridge of Avilla, IN, Harper Hofmann of Chicago, IL and many special cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Visitation is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home in Montpelier. Funeral services will start at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce A. Tumblin officiating. Burial will be at Floral Grove Cemetery in West Unity. The family suggests memorial donations to St. Paul's U.M.
