Obituary

JACK C. BAXTER, SR 1921 – 2012 Jack C. Baxter, Sr., 90, of Canton, Georgia, and a former Montpelier resident died Friday, February 3, 2012 in St. Joseph Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia following a short illness. Born November 25, 1921 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to James B. and Thelma ( Robinette) Baxter he was raised in Cleveland, Ohio and was a 1939 graduate of Fairview Park High School, and attended Bowling Green State University. On December 1, 1945 he was married to Patricia M. (Hutchinson) and she preceded him in death on September 27, 2008. Jack was employed over 20 years as a mechanical engineer with Eaton Corporation retiring in 1976. Previously he was employed with ARO Corporation, Bryan, Ohio. A veteran of World War Two, he had served with the U. S. Marine Corps Fighting 4th Division in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, having been involved in battles on Kwajalein, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. Jack was a member of 4th Marine Division Survivors Group, a Life Member of both the Kiwanis Club and V.F.W., and the Bahai Faith. Surviving Jack is one son, Jack (Teresa) Baxter, Jr. Atlanta, one daughter, Leanne (Kevin) McGann, Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy Turner, Lexington, Kentucky, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, two brothers, Paul (Joanne) Baxter, Lorain, Ohio, Duane (Thea) Baxter, of New Mexico. Two sisters, Marilyn Bailey, Louisville, Kentucky, Janet (Donald) Waldron, Montpelier, Ohio, and Nancy Baxter Johns, Atlanta, Georgia. Also preceding him in death were three sons, William, George and Timothy Baxter. a brother Rollin, and a sister Betty Keafer. Visitation for Jack C. Baxter will be Thursday February 9th from 4-8 p.m. in Wilson - Geesey Funeral Home, 335 Empire Street, Montpelier, OH 43543. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Bruce A. Tumblin officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by Montpelier Veterans Organizations.
