Obituary

James "Jim" L. Knapp, 81, of Montpelier passed away Thursday evening at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance.  He was born on December 14, 1933 in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio to Glayden L. and Helen M. (Sidle) Knapp.  Jim graduated from Montpelier High School in 1951.  Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Sargent during the Korean War. Jim was a roofer through the 134 Local Union out of Toledo for 34 years before retiring.  At one time he was a Tool & Die Maker for White Motor Company in Montpelier.  Jim was a member of the Pioneer American Legion, Montpelier Eagles and a former member of the Montpelier Moose. Jim is survived by one son, Thomas (Louise) Knapp of Pioneer; one daughter, Kathy J. Lambright of Napoleon, one brother Richard L. Knapp of Bryan; 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jack Knapp, and one sister Madalene L. Moog. Visitation for Jim will be on Monday May 4th from 4-7pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier.  Services will be on Tuesday at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor John Rumple to officiate.  Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier with graveside military rites provided by the Montpelier Veterans.  Donations may be made to CHP Hospice in Bryan or Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
