JAY MAUGHERMAN, JR.
(1927 – 2010)
Jay Maugherman, Jr., 83, of rural Edon, died late Monday December 27, 2010 in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born January 22, 1927 near Angola, Indiana to Jay Sr. and Dorothy (Eckert) Maugherman, and was a 1945 graduate of Metz High School. He had served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
Over the years having resided in Angola, Edon, and Montpelier, he had been employed in the engineering department of Mohawk Tools, Inc. of Montpelier for 15 years, and then for over 20 years was the owner-operator along with his family of Maugherman's Hardware Store in Montpelier retiring in 1991. A former member of Columbia Church of Christ, he presently was affiliated with Metz Christian Church. Also he formerly was a member of the Montpelier I.O.O.F. and Montpelier Moose Lodges.
On January 22, 1950 he was married to Mabel (Cogswell), they divorced, and she died on December 29, 2000.
Surviving are one son, Larry (Denise) Maugherman, Edon, Ohio; one daughter, Shelley Kelble, West Unity, Ohio; six grandchildren, Tyler (Octavia) Maugherman, Ashley and Erik Maugherman, Nichelle (Tom) Mohre-Cassidy, Nilah and Nilesha Mohre. Three great grandchildren, Bradon Gruetna, Camron and JayLynn Maugherman. One sister, Gladys Carpenter of Beebe, Arkansas.
Visitation for Jay Maugherman, will be Sunday January 2, 2011 from 2 – 8 p.m. in Wilson – Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier, where services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Michael Hesterman officiating. Burial will follow in South Scott Cemetery, near Metz, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Dream Haven Assisted Living or Metz Christian Church.
