John L. Richard, 73, of Alvordton, passed away May 20, 2018 at Park View Nursing Center in Edgerton. He was born June 20, 1944 in Hillsdale, Michigan to Robert and Violet Richard. He served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967. John married Karen E. Midtgard on July 6, 1963, she preceded him in death on January 28, 2013. John enjoyed a long career in Law Enforcement including the Montpelier Police Dept., the Williams County Sheriff's Department, Alvordton Town Marshal, and most recently as West Unity Chief of Police. He is survived by his son Edmund (and wife, Laura) Richard of Fayetteville, Arkansas and his sister Carma Strang of Camden, Michigan. Visitation will be Saturday May 26th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Funeral service will be at 1:30 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home 204 E. Main St. Montpelier, Ohio, with Tim Henricks officiating. Interment at Camden, Michigan Cemetery will immediately follow services. Memorials can be made to the Williams County Humane Society.
