Lawrence (Larry) E. Pannell

Larry Pannell, 80 of Montpelier passed away quietly and peacefully at Evergreen Manor in Montpelier, Ohio on May 15th 2012 after nearly a year long battle with cancer. He was born on September 25th 1931 in Burnwell, W.Va to Harry and Letha (Burford) Pannell.
After high school Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army for four years stationed in Berlin, Germany during the Korean War. Soon after an honorable discharge Larry headed to Ohio as a land surveyor on the Ohio and Indiana Turnpikes. It was during that time he met and later married Nancy M. Hoffman on August 7th 1954 at The Chapel in Angola, Indiana. For many years Larry worked for Mannik & Smith of Toledo, retiring in 1993. He also served as a guard at Fresh Start in Alvordton, Ohio for many years.
Larry was a life time member of the VFW Post 2489 in Bryan. He attended church at Restoration Fellowship in Bryan, Ohio.
Survivors include wife Nancy, son Roger (Donna) Pannell, daughter Janis Pannell, grandsons Greg (Tanya) Pannell, Ryan (Cindi) Pannell, granddaughter Angel (Terry) Fish, three brothers Harry Jr. (Sheila), Charles (Shirley), and Rick (Donna) Pannell, six great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, one great great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters Margaret, Tunie, Frances, and Ruth, three brothers Robert, Ken and John.
Visitation hours for Larry will be on Saturday, May 19th from 10 am – 12 noon at the Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier, Ohio. A private graveside committal service will be held at Brown Cemetery in rural Bryan with Pastor James Adams to officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Bryan VFW. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Restoration Fellowship Church at 1:30 pm on Saturday, May 19th. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hospital Hospice, Restoration Fellowship Church or to the family.
