Obituary

Marion Marie Shannon (September 14, 1917 - August 2, 2012) Marion Marie Shannon, age 94, of Montpelier, Ohio, died on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier, under Hospice care, after a short illness. She was born on September 14, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph Aloysius and Louise Fredericka (Seyfferth) Klein. Marion's family moved to Montpelier when she was 11 years old and has been an area resident since. As a young woman, she was named the 1934 Queen of the Bryan Horse Show.  On August 4, 1935, she married Carl D. Shannon of Montpelier.  He preceded her in death in April 1999 after nearly 64 years of marriage.  Mrs. Shannon was active for several years in various community clubs including a bridge club, Twice-Ten Study Club, Crescent Study Club, Montpelier Community Garden Club and UMW Rachael Circle. Surviving are a two daughters and son-in-laws, Carolyn Jean and Fredrick W. Strobel of Montpelier, and RuthAnn and David  L. Figgins of Churubusco, Indiana, four grandchildren Dr. Jeffrey (Dr. Susan) Strobel , San Diego, California, Laurie (Terry) Rohlf , Archbold, Ohio; Michael (Dawn) Figgins, Colon, Michigan; and Margaret "Peggy" (William) Kreger, LaGrange, Indiana.  There are nine great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and three step great-great grandchildren and a sister, Adele L. (Harold) Gloyd, 98, of Florida. Marion was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard A. (Viola) Klein, and a sister, Mildred A. (Adam) Traxler. Marion enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies included pottery, floral arrangement, gardening, sewing and crossword puzzles. For several years, she was employed by Kindler's Flowers in both Montpelier and Bryan, Ohio. Marion was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Montpelier and Life Changing Realities Fellowship in Edgerton. Private graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier. According to Marion's wishes, there will be no visitation. Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier is in charge of the service. Pastor Eric Burkhart of Life Changing Realities Fellowship will officiate. Memorials are requested to CHWC Hospice Care.
