Obituary

MONTPELIER -- Marvin L. McKelvey, 70, of Montpelier, died Saturday evening, December 11, 2010 at Defiance Inpatient Hospice. He was born April 3, 1940 near Montpelier, the son of Carl W. and Rachel G (Shankster) McKelvey, and was a lifelong Montpelier resident. A 1958 graduate of Montpelier High School, he was employed for over 30 years with HRH Industries, Bryan, and was widely known for doing field drainage, as well as a cattle hauler. Marvin was an avid New York Yankees fan and he enjoyed attending his grandkids ball games, gardening, and any outdoor work. On March 30, 1991 he was married to Nancy Carter Rehklau, and she survives. Also surviving are four sons, Robert (Katy) McKelvey, Montpelier, Monte (Marie) McKelvey, Bryan, Roy (Hope) McKelvey, Montpelier, and Kyle (Denise) McKelvey, Hicksville. Two step sons, Jeff Rehklau, Alvordton and Norm (Diane) Rehklau, Waldron, Michigan. One step daughter, Michelle (Jamie) Rice, Okinawa, Japan. Eleven Grandchildren, Heidi (Dustin) Crider, Alan (Katy) McKelvey, Corey McKelvey, Erica McKelvey, Shelby McKelvey, Lyle McKelvey, Mykenzie Fast, Logan Fast, Landre McKelvey, Cassie McKelvey, and Nathan McKelvey. Four Step grandchildren, Melissa Grieser, Logan Grieser, Skyler Rice and Taylor Rice. Seven Great grandchildren, Logan Anne, Collin, Lauren, Olivia, Vanessa, Kalvin, and Onnika. His mother, Rachel G. McKelvey, Montpelier, His mother-in-law, Marcille Carter, Montpelier. Two brothers, Keith (Marilyn) McKelvey , Montpelier and Bill (Sandy) McKelvey, Edgerton. Four sisters, Janet Cooley, Bryan, Karen Weirich, Montpelier, Marilyn (Paul) Kline, Hicksville, and Virginia (Gary) Ingersoll, Monticello, Illinois. Preceding him in death was his father, Carl, infant brother Robert Eugene, his father-in-law, Orva "Bud" Carter, and brother-in-law, Jess Cooley. Visitation for Marvin will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. in Wilson – Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Nelson Rupp officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier. Preferred memorials are to Defiance Inpatient Hospice.
