Norman R. Apt, 94, of Bowling Green, Ohio and a Kunkle native and long time resident died Saturday evening November 6, 2010 at Wood Haven Health Care, Bowling Green following a lingering illness.
Born September 18, 1916 at Kunkle to Mary Elizabeth Fortney and Robert Blair Apt, Sr., he was a Kunkle resident most of his life, and on December 25, 1948 he was married to Illah Manley and she preceded him in death on November 17, 1973.
He had retired as a polisher with ARO Corporation, Bryan, where he had been employed for over 40 years.
Norman was an avid sportsman, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having fought in Africa and Europe, and was involved in the invasion of Normandy, having been awarded four Bronze Stars.
He was a member of Pioneer American Legion, Pioneer V.F.W., and Montpelier Eagles Lodge.
Surviving are two sons, Randall L. (Alicia) Apt, Kunkle, Norman Alan (Jeane) Apt Richmond, Virginia, and one daughter, Gloria J. Fisher, Bowling Green.
Five grandchildren and Four great grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Ellen Papp, Montpelier.
Also preceding him in death were brothers, John, Robert Jr., Paul, Kenneth, Edgar "Mickey", and Sherman "Bill" Apt. two sisters, Margaret Roose and Infant Ruth Lenore Apt.
Public Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday November 12, 2010 at Kunkle Cemetery with Reverend Ron Evans officiating. Graveside Military rites will be conducted by Pioneer Veteran Organizations. There will be no visitation. Preferred memorials are to AMVETS.
