Obituary

Norman A. Geesey 73, of Montpelier died suddenly Saturday morning at the Community Hospitals and Wellness Center in Montpelier. He was born on October 26th 1938 in Bryan, Ohio to Millard H. and F. Mae (Stahl) Geesey. Norman graduated from Montpelier High School in 1956. He then attended Bowling Green State University and would receive his mortuary science degree from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1959. Upon graduation and obtaining his National Board of Certification from Cincinnati College of Embalming he returned to Montpelier and began working at the Wilson Funeral Home, where he had been working since the age of 14. On August 19th 1960 he married his life and working partner Lorna J. Esterline in Montpelier. Norman and Lorna purchased the Wilson Funeral Home in 1972 and it became known as the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home. Norman attended the First United Methodist Church of Montpelier. Norman was a 50 year member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. He was licensed through the Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors since November of 1960, the State of Michigan Board of Examiners and Mortuary Science since July of 1970 and certification at the Medical College of Ohio Section of Ophthalmology. At one time Norman was on the Montpelier Public Library Board, Glenview Apartments Advisory Board and the Montpelier Chamber of Commerce. In 2006 Norman was recognized as the Montpelier Citizen of the year. Norman is survived by his wife Lorna of over 51 years, two daughters Kelley and Russ Thompson of Perrysburg, Ohio, Greta and Michael DeGroff of Stryker, Ohio, two grandchildren Abigail M. Fisher of Perrysburg and Benjamin R. Fisher of Novi, MI. Norman was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Steven M. DeGroff on April 28th 1999. Visitation hours for Norman will be on Wednesday, February 15th from 2-8pm at the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home in Montpelier. Services will be on Thursday at 11am at the First United Methodist Church in Montpelier with Reverend Robert Damschroder to officiate. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier.
