Norman Dean Thorp, 72, of Pioneer passed away Monday morning at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.  He was born on September 5, 1945 in Hillsdale, Michigan to Norman "Whitey" G. and Margaret Grace (Miller) Thorp.  Norman graduated from North Central High School in 1963.  He then earned his bachelor's degree in Real Estate from The Ohio State University in 1968.  On January 15, 1975 he married Iris E. Trubey-Roberts and she survives. Norman was a member of the military police in the Army National Guard.  He was a grain and cattle farmer, constructed single and multi-family homes, was a rural and urban land developer and a real estate broker in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Iris; children, Norman K. Thorp of Pioneer, Tracie (Andrew) Mills of Pioneer, Sydney (Tammi) Roberts of Loveland, Colorado and Samuel (Henrietta) Roberts of Frenchburg, Kentucky; one grandchild Alyssa Grace Mills; sister Dorothy "Dot" (James) Ragland of Pioneer; eight step grandchildren, eleven step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Norman was preceded in death by his parents. Due to funeral home renovations Norman's visitation will be at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier on Friday, October 27th from 2-6pm.  Services will take place at the Main Street funeral home on Saturday at 10:30am with Reverend Terry Baldwin to officiate.  Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.  Memorial contributions may be given to CHP - Hospice.
