Ralph J. Dominique, Jr. 73, of Montpelier passed away surrounded by family Saturday morning at the Community Hospitals and Wellness Center in Bryan, Ohio. Ralph was born on August 25th 1938 in Wauseon, Ohio to Ralph J. and Olivia F. (Grime) Dominique, Sr. He graduated from Wauseon High School in 1956 and married the love of his life MaryAnn Berry on December 1st 1957 in Erie, Michigan.
Ralph worked as store manager for the Charles Company and the 5¢ and 10¢ Hurst Company in Wauseon, Ohio, Variety Store, The Montpelier Discount Drugs and Radio Shack in Montpelier. He also drove school bus for the Montpelier Exempted Village Schools for over 30 years and enjoyed being a high school football referee for over 45 years.
Throughout his life, Ralph was an Eagle Scout recipient, a member/secretary and Paul Harris Fellowship recipient for the Montpelier Rotary Club, member of Montpelier Ministerial Association and was acting mayor of the Village of Montpelier for a brief time, as he was a member of the Montpelier Village Council for three terms.
On May 22nd 1976, Ralph and his brother James were ordained as permanent deacons for the Diocese of Toledo. Deacon Ralph served the church by offering Sacraments and helped grieving families of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montpelier and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Blakeslee.
By the grace of our Lord, Ralph received a life saving kidney transplant in 2008 from his grandniece Jodelynn (Stiriz) Meyer and was able to be with his family for an additional four years. Ralph was a family man, outdoorsman, dog lover, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was an avid golfer.
Ralph is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 55 years, three sons Dennis P. Dominique of Montpelier, Father Todd M. Dominique of Defiance, Ohio, David and Amanda Dominique of Napoleon, Ohio, one daughter Michelle and Michael Etzler of Greenwich, Ohio, eight grandchildren Kimberly, Nicholas, Megan, Jeremy, Jillian, Janie, Gabe, Ryan, five great grandchildren, and one brother James and Patricia Dominique of Wauseon.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, one son Gregory A. Dominique (infant).
A reception of the body will be on Tuesday, April 10th with visitation from 2-8 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montpelier - a Vigil Service will be held Tuesday evening at 8 pm. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 10 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Todd M. Dominique to officiate. A luncheon will follow the mass with committal at 2 pm at St. Caspars Catholic Cemetery in Wauseon, Ohio. Donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
