Richard is now resting in the arms of his heavenly Father. Richard, 75, of Pioneer passed away peacefully on March 30th surrounded by his family at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and Poppy.
He was born on November 24th 1936 in Clayton, Michigan to Willis William and Addie Marie (Sharr) Sampson. Sam graduated from Morenci, Michigan High School in 1954 and soon after served his country in the U.S. Army. On August 29th 1959 he married Ruth A. Cutler in Morenci, Michigan and she survives.
In 2006 Sam retired from Yeager's Market in Pioneer as the manager after 28 years. Prior to Yeager's he was the manager for over 23 years at various A & P store locations throughout the Northeast, Ohio area. Sam was a member of the Williams County Gideons and had a ministry at CCNO. He was a faithful member of Bridgewater Community Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Sam also had memberships at the Montpelier Eagles and the Sons of the Pioneer American Legion.
Sam is survived by his wife of 52 years, one son Bradley (Debra) Sampson, Sr. of Pioneer, two daughters Debra (John) Herzog of Lebanon, MO, Kristie (Ron) Keil of Holiday City, OH, eight grandchildren Craig Sampson, Bradley Sampson, Jr., Nicole Ruble, Erin Mankey, Jacob Herzog, Joseph Keil, Megan Keil, Morgan Keil, three great grandsons and three great granddaughters, two brothers Jim (Joyce) Sampson of British Columbia, Canada, Jack (Jan) Sampson of Morenci, MI, and one sister in-law Arlene Cutler of Clayton, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William Sampson, three sisters Betty Gould, Mary Potts, Sharrlene Taylor and one brother in-law Larry Culter.
Services for Sam will be on Tuesday, April 3rd at 2pm at Lakeview Church in Camden, Michigan with Pastor Jack H. Teeple to officiate. Visitation hours will be at Lakeview Church on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and Tuesday from 12 pm- until the time of the service. Interment will be at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer with Military Rites by the Pioneer Veterans. Donations may be made to the Williams County Gideons or the Alzheimer's Association.
