Robert "Slug" D. Custar, 64 of Montpelier died Monday evening at his home.  Robert was born on August 15th 1947 in Wauseon, Ohio to Ford D. and Pauline M. (Mekus) Custar. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1965.  Soon after school Robert volunteered for the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.  Robert was a Staff Sergeant and was stationed in Japan for four years.   On July 20th 1984 he married Tamara "Tammi" J. Schulz in Bryan, Ohio. In 1995 Robert retired as a Sergeant from the Bryan City Police Department after 19 years of service.  From 1996-2009 Robert was the D.A.R.E. Officer for the Williams County Sheriff's Department. Robert enjoyed the outdoors and always had a special place in his heart for teaching and helping the youth of Williams County.  He was a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of the Bryan American Legion and the Pioneer V.F.W. Robert is survived by his wife Tammi of Montpelier, two sons Rick and Kara Custar of Pioneer, Clint and Amy Custar of Virginia, two grandchildren, two sisters Pam Eminger of Yorktown, Virginia, and Penny and Jeff Rumsey of Jackson, MI. A memorial service for Robert will be on Saturday at 5pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier with Marv Hartman to officiate.  A time to receive friends will be on Saturday from 1pm until the time of the service.  Donations may be made to the Williams County Conservation League – Youth Trap Shooters.
