Obituary

Robert Cameron Winzeler Jr., 80, a lifelong resident of Montpelier, died Sunday April 29, 2012. At the time of his death he was chairman of Winzeler Stamping Company. Born on May 1, 1931, to Pauline Martin and Robert C. Winzeler Sr., he was a 1949 graduate of Montpelier High School. On June 20, 1953, he married Jo Ann Call in Connersville, Ind., and she survives. After graduating from high school, Bob attended The Ohio State University receiving a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering. His honors at the university included membership in Phi Eta Sigma, Texnikoi Engineering; and Sphinx Senior Men's Honorary. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Ohio Staters Inc. While at the university he became a member of the R.O.T.C. and upon graduation was commissioned as a First Lieutenant. He was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and performed active duty in the Air Material Command from 1955 to 1957. Bob and Jo Ann then came back to Montpelier where he joined his father and Uncle Bill in the Winzeler Stamping Company. There he served as Chairman and CEO from 1970 to 1997. Throughout his career at Winzeler Stamping Company, he founded Winzeler Pacific, Winzeler South, and Acme Metal Products, which became Design Institute America in 1971. His entrepreneurial spirit was a driving force in many business ventures. Locally he was elected to two terms on the Montpelier Village Council, spent three years on the Montpelier Planning Commission, was the director of the Montpelier Industrial Development Corporation, and Chairman of the Montpelier Park Board for two years. He served as president of the Montpelier Rotary, was a member of the Masonic Lodge— Scottish Rite — Zenobia Shrine from 1950 to the present, and was an elder and finance chairman at the First Presbyterian Church. Bob served as trustee of Four County Technical Institute, was president of the Montpelier Community Airport, Inc. in 1960, served as treasurer of the Montpelier Youth Center, Inc. in 1964; and was treasurer of the Montpelier Medical Development Corporation in 1960. An active Ohio State University Alumni Bob served as the Ohio State University Alumni's County President in 1968, was on the university's Athletic Council from 1974 to 1980, was the vice chairman of the Ohio State University Alumni Board of Trustees in 1968, and served on the Ohio State University Library Renovation in 2002. Bob was an active member of the Republican Party holding the position of Republican Central Committee of Ohio, County Committeeman from 1970 to the present; he was on the Republican National Committee in 1964, the California Republican Central Committee in 1966, and served under Ronald Reagan in the office of the Governor of California in 1968. He was Republican County Chairman from 1978 through 1988, and then again from 2002 through 2005. He was on the Ohio Republican Finance Committee in 1988 and was Vice Chairman of the 'Victory 2000' Ohio Republican Party in 2000. Bob held various other affiliations as well. He was a national and state member of the Holstein-Friesian Association, a member of the Executive Order of the Ohio Commodores, trustee and treasurer of the Williams County General Hospital, and vice chairman for the subcommittee on Government Relations for the Ohio Hospital Association. He was on the National Advisory Committee on Health for the American Hospital Association and a member of the development board of the Medical College of Ohio. Bob was a member of the Young President's Organization from 1973 through 1981. Since 1976 he was a trustee of the Ohio Manufacturer's Association, becoming president in 1987. Bob's other memberships include The Williams County Airport Board, the World Business Council, Chief Executives Organization, the Governor's Trade Missions to the Pacific Rim and to South Africa. He was trustee of the Buckeye Institute, served as chairman of the Northwest Ohio Workforce Board and a member of the Northwest Ohio Rail Commission in 2010. Bob's passions were his family, his community, and he always made time for Clear Lake and anything connected to The Ohio State University. In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by two daughters, Kimberle Winzeler, of Chicago, Ill.; Megan (Jim) Hinchsliff, of Chicago, Ill., two sons, Bob (Patti) Winzeler III of Fremont, Ind.; Mike (Jennifer) Winzeler of Bryan; one brother, Dan Winzeler of High Point, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Dr. David (Jane) Call of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Christian Winzeler, of Fremont, Ind.; Jessica and Wilson Hinchsliff, of Chicago, Ill.; and Owen, Jules and Ruby Winzeler of Bryan. The family would like to thank the staff of Montpelier Rehabilitation and Evergreen Manor for their loving care and support during Bob's difficult journey. Visitation for Mr. Winzeler will be Sunday, May 6, at the First Presbyterian Church, Montpelier, from 2 to 7 p.m. Services will be held at the church, Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Tilly to officiate. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier with graveside rites by the Montpelier Veterans. Memorials may be made to the Montpelier Area Foundation, First Presbyterian Church or the Montpelier Recreation Park. Arrangements are being handled by The Thompson Funeral Home- Montpelier.
