Obituary

Virgil A. Franz, 93 of Montpelier died late Saturday night at the Cameron Hospital in Angola, Indiana.  Virgil was born on March 7th 1918 near Holgate, Ohio to Albert S. & Valy (Knipp) Franz. He attended Napoleon High School.  On August 8th 1941 He married Clarissa M. (Rohrs) at Ridgeville Corners, Ohio and they were married 68 years until her passing on September 20th 2009. Virgil moved to Montpelier in 1955 and was a life-long Bridgewater Township farmer and cattle feeder up until the age of 90.  He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Montpelier. Virgil is survived by a son Daryl (Jean) Franz of Angola, IN, two daughters Nancy (Charles) Elser of Pioneer, Sharon (John) Stecovich of Montpelier, eleven grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Clarissa, four sisters Violet Richard, Iris Orwig, Vera Benecke, and Ethel Ostofi. Visitation hours for Virgil will be on Wednesday, January 18th from 4-8pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier.  Services will be on Thursday at 11 am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Montpelier with Pastor Paul Gruetter to officiate.  Interment will be at Grelton Cemetery in Grelton, Ohio at 3pm on Thursday.   Donations in memory of Virgil can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
