Donna J. (Somerlott) Gear

Donna J. Gear, 80, of Osseo, MI passed away at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Care in Archbold, OH on November 21, 2020 surrounded by her family.  Donna was born on February 29, 1940 to Dale R. and Inez Waneta (Alwood) Somerlott, who proceeded her in death.

On December 9, 1961 Donna married Jay C. Gear, Jr at the Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church in Metz, IN.  Donna and Jay were blessed with four daughters, Shonna (Brent) Holland, Archbold, OH, Wanda (Patrick) Beard, Angola, IN, Joyce (Thomas) Layton, Pettisville, OH and Roberta (Kelly) Gear-Smith, Sioux Fall, SD.  nine grandchildren - Jill (Brook) Conrad, Lindsey (Nathaniel) Lange, Genny Rupp, Michael (Katlyn) Beard, Jessie Rupp, Erin (Wade) Planson, Tyler Layton, Joshua Smith and Sarah Smith and 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Jay and children, Donna is survived by four brothers, Ned (Shirley) Somerlott, Richard (Carol) Somerlott, and David (Kimberly) Somerlott all of Angola, IN and Alvin (Candy) Somerlott of Columbia City, IN.

Donna actively attended the Lakeview United Brethren Church, Camden, MI where she participated in many Women’s ministries and played piano for many years.

Visitation hours will be on Monday, November 30, 2020 from 4-7pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer.  A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Ransom Township, Michigan.  Due to the ongoing pandemic and per the governor’s order we ask that you adhere to the social distancing guidelines and that you bring a mask, as wearing one will be required.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lakeview UB Church.
