Julaine (Knecht) Ely

Julaine Ely, 96, of Montpelier passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Evergreen Health Care in Montpelier.  She was born on March 16, 1926 in Montpelier to Sylvester “Davy” and Euprasia Pearl (Brannan) Knecht.  Julaine graduated from Montpelier High School in 1944.  On June 11, 1945 she married Robert G. Ely and he preceded her in death on September 8, 2022. 

Julaine attended First United Methodist Church in Montpelier.  In 1988 she retired from Pioneer Transformer after 22 years.  Juliane enjoyed camping all over the United States.  Family was very important to her.   

She is survived by her daughter Susan (Steve) Decker of Bryan; grandchildren James R. Moon, Jr., Kenneth J. Moon, Kevin G. Moon and Stevie K. Lanzer; 6 great grandchildren; sister Linda (Ron) Fenicle of Montpelier; sister-in-law Maxine Knecht of Glendora, California; and brothers-in-law Norman Stoy of Montpelier and Floyd Peterson of Pioneer. 

Julaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 77 years, Robert, brothers James and Bud Knecht and sisters Sandra Stoy and Sue Peterson. 

Visitation for Julaine will be on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 11am-1pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier.  Services will follow at 1pm at the funeral home with Pastor Eric Dailey to officiate.  Julaine will be laid to rest at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.  Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Montpelier.
