Michael D. Sims, 74, of Wartrace, Tennessee passed away Sunday at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born on April 25, 1947 in Garden City, Michigan to Stacey Casper and Helene E. (Schwartz) Sims. Michael was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1970 and a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1971. He proudly served his country as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves.
Michael taught electronics with the Jackson County Intermediate School District in Jackson, Michigan, he also taught computer repair at Jackson Community College for 25 years, before retiring. His military career life was an extraordinary life experience. He loved being a part of the military, he was very proud of his country and his service. In recent years Michael came to know Jesus and it has been the most valuable experience of his life.
He is survived by his children Jonathan (Noël) Sims of Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Joanna (Adam) Swanson of Wartrace, Tennessee; eight grandchildren Clarissa, Ethan, Carinn and Isabella Sims, Logan and Chloe Maltese and Abigail and Autumn Swanson; and special niece Stacey Griffin.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.
Visitation for Michael will be on Wednesday, September 29th from 9-10 AM at the Thompson Funeral Home in Pioneer with a funeral service following at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer with military honors being presented by The United States Army alongside the Pioneer Veterans. Memorials may be given to Disabled American Veterans.
